Every architect, developer, and design build client eventually asks the same question. What does this cost. The honest answer is that it depends on scope, revisions, and the studio's overhead, but there is a real market and there are real numbers, and being cagey about them does the industry no favours. Here is what the market actually looks like in mid 2026, drawn from our studio's own pricing and from conversations with peers running similar operations in Europe and North America.

A single exterior still of a residential building, delivered at 4k with two rounds of revisions, currently runs between 1200 dollars at the low end from a competent solo freelancer and 4500 dollars at the high end from an established studio. The most common price for a good agency delivery is around 2500 dollars per image. This assumes the client provides CAD, a mood reference, and a short brief. It does not include entourage sourcing beyond a stock library, drone reference plates, or animation output.

A single interior still runs slightly higher than an exterior, typically 1500 dollars at the low end and 5000 dollars at the high end, with 2800 dollars as a common studio price. Interiors take longer than exteriors because of the amount of specific furniture, materials, and lighting setup involved. A furnished bedroom set with correct materials, correct art on the walls, and believable lighting is a week of production work at studio quality, and that is why the number sits where it does.

Packages change the per image number significantly. A five image residential package, typically three exterior and two interior, currently prices around 6500 dollars in mid 2026, which is roughly 1300 dollars per image. The saving comes from set up costs being shared. The scene modelling, materials, and rig only happen once. A ten image package for a mid rise or small development typically runs 11000 to 15000 dollars, which is 1100 to 1500 per image depending on complexity.

Animation is a different economic conversation. A 30 second architectural flythrough at 1080p 30fps typically runs 8000 dollars at the low end from a freelancer or 25000 dollars from a full service studio with music, sound design, and a professional grade. The compute cost alone for 900 frames at 4k on a rented render farm is around 1200 dollars, which is why the finished delivery cannot reasonably be cheap. Clients who ask for animation at exterior still prices are usually clients who have not done this before.

Revisions are where projects go sideways financially if the scope is unclear. Our contracts include two rounds of revisions covering camera adjustments, material changes on named elements, lighting time of day changes, and entourage swaps. A third round is billed at 400 dollars per image. Structural revisions, meaning a change to the underlying model geometry, are always billed separately because they are effectively a new project. Clarifying this in writing at the start of every project has resolved more disputes than any other pricing decision we have made.

Location matters less than it used to. A studio in Warsaw and a studio in Toronto can now price similarly for similar output because clients evaluate portfolios before geography, and remote work is standard. Studios in high cost cities like New York or London price higher because their overhead demands it, and their clients pay it because the reputation of a specific studio matters more than the postal address. The cheap remote outsource that was a big deal in 2018 no longer works for premium work because the quality gap has closed and communication cost dominates any location saving.

AI has affected pricing in ways that are still shaking out. Concept ideation using Midjourney or Nano Banana at the front of a project can save the artist a day of look development, which some studios pass through as a small discount and others quietly keep as margin. AI denoising and upscaling in animation can save real render farm cost, which for a 60 second animation can be 3000 dollars of pass through. The honest studios are being transparent about these savings when the client asks. The market has not settled on a norm yet.

Client size affects pricing more than most junior artists realise. A single family homeowner working with an architect can genuinely not pay 2500 dollars per image, and pricing for that market lives in the 800 to 1500 range from freelancers who specialise in it. A large developer marketing a 40 unit condo can genuinely pay 4000 dollars per image because the images will sell 40 apartments. Charging the same rate to both is either leaving money on the table or scaring off the smaller client. Studios that succeed usually pick one lane and price it correctly.

The final note is about your own pricing math. If you are a freelancer or a small studio, the correct hourly rate to price against in 2026 is 90 to 140 dollars per hour for the artist plus overhead, not the 60 dollars you might see quoted in older articles. Software, hardware, insurance, and time between projects are all real costs. A 2500 dollar exterior still that takes 20 to 25 hours of production work is priced correctly. Pricing below that number is not a growth strategy, it is a slow bleed. Value your time correctly and the industry gets healthier for everyone.

Between 1200 and 5000 dollars depending on complexity and studio tier. A common price from a good studio is around 2500 dollars per exterior still or 2800 dollars per interior still, with two rounds of revisions included, delivered at 4k from CAD provided by the client.
Are rendering packages cheaper than individual images?
Yes. A five image residential package typically prices around 6500 dollars, or 1300 dollars per image, because the scene setup, materials, and rig only happen once. A ten image package for a small development runs 11000 to 15000 dollars total, or 1100 to 1500 per image.
How much does a 3D architectural animation cost?
A 30 second flythrough at 1080p 30fps typically runs 8000 dollars from a freelancer or 25000 dollars from a full service studio with grade, music, and sound design. The compute cost alone for the render is around 1200 dollars for 900 frames at 4k on a render farm.
